Structural Beauty: A Minimalist Office Space

Exploring the Essence of Human with Space

This case is an office space for daily work and customer reception. Its design concept emerges from the interaction between human and the world, explores the ultimate significance of human in the world, and expresses the essence of human with space. The overall atmosphere is as cool, rational and introverted as Yamamoto's clothing design. Minimalist and Wabi-sabi are the theme throughout the space design.

This office space, aptly named Structural Beauty, stands out with its unique blend of minimalism and Wabi-sabi aesthetics. Designed by Zhongliang Xiang, it showcases the designer's deep understanding of the relationship between people and their surroundings. The space emphasizes the influence of its own structure on its occupants, creating an environment that promotes relaxation and natural comfort.

The design of Structural Beauty is characterized by simple and smooth lines, carefully crafted to release the charm and temperament of the spatial structure itself. The color palette consists of crisp white and calm gray, creating a subtle yet impactful contrast. These basic building materials, including terrazzo, panDOMO, gypsum board, wood, and paint, form the foundation of the space, embodying the minimalist concept.

One of the standout features of Structural Beauty is the elevated platform, which not only adds visual coherence to the space but also enhances the overall experience. The wooden floor, adorned with traces of time, adds a sense of history to this brand new office. The platform serves as a concrete expression of spatial segmentation, creating distinct areas within the office.

In terms of functionality, Structural Beauty takes into account the needs of its guests. The design incorporates a lowered ceiling above the south window, reducing the sense of hollowness and creating a more intimate atmosphere. The skillful use of natural light fills the interior with vitality, with light pouring in from the north and south, converging in the center of the hall.

The project, which took place in Shanghai from October 2018 to January 2019, showcases the designer's meticulous attention to detail and extensive research. By exploring the structure of office spaces, Zhongliang Xiang sought to create a space that not only meets practical needs but also aligns with individuals' self-spirit.

Structural Beauty has garnered recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award celebrates designs that exhibit resourcefulness, creativity, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

With its minimalist aesthetic, thoughtful design, and emphasis on the relationship between people and space, Structural Beauty sets a new standard for office environments. It offers a serene and inspiring atmosphere that fosters productivity and well-being.
